Your False ‘Self’ is Holding You Back
We all know the bloated heads that walk around the office oozing the aura of “I’m better than you” … as they live in their own bubble of conceptual importance.
You’ve ingested those one-sided conversations that are blanketed by a “Look at ME” push to dazzle all within an earshot of the exchange.
On the other end of the room, another version of the same is rearing its head through someone on the receiving end of an innocent comment.
This one comment, taken out of context, because it’s all they heard… has set off fireworks of an emotional explosion in defense of this little thing we call…
…Ego.
These scenarios are all very obvious examples of the ego, but have you ever met the other side of the Ego?
Another side, less obvious, but more cunning. On a larger scale, this side of ego is all-encompassing and much more destructive.
“Life cannot be against you, for you are life itself. Life can only seem to go against the ego’s projections, which are rarely in harmony with the truth.”
Mooji
Let me demonstrate how your other self, the ego, digs in and fosters havoc, suffering, pain, and fear as constant companions in life.
Ego comes disguised as YOU.
It’s NOT always reflected in the attempt to bolster your feelings, spew your accomplishments, or defend your stance.
Often, when you’re identifying with anything – be it an idea, belief, or an object… this is essentially the ego. Instead of trying to explain this, let me ask you a question.
Who are you? Answer this to yourself.
Right away, answers like writer, entrepreneur, business tycoon, doctor, teacher, Asian, Indian, coach, engineer… creep in.

Is this really who you are? And if we go even deeper… are you really the skin, bones, nails, and hair that make up your body?
Who are you? Are you really your profession, your ethnicity… or any other worldly label that has been embossed on your conceptual self?
Any outer labeling is the other side of the ego at work.
It’s not who you really are.
So how does this relate to suffering? Do your research and you’ll find that basic physics point to the belief that… your outer world directly reflects your inner world.
And if you are totally identified with outer labels… you ARE, for that moment, your EGO.
For many, this is a constant facade. A veil that never leaves. They ARE FOREVER… their Ego.
And since their LIFE is based on a FALSE OUTER conception of themselves, of life… their attention is never directed to who they really are. And as this inner self is neglected… It’s easy to understand that the outer reflection of life will suffer.

Emotional draining life situations tend to plague the person who IS their ego. And when things are going well… it’s almost a given that some degree of suffering is right around the corner.
Think about your own life… don’t worry – you’re not alone.
The majority of humans suffer from ego dominated existence. From the ‘High-Roller’ on Wall-Street… to the meek and amiable “Christian” who identifies with ideational beliefs.
Want to know if this applies to you? Do you constantly have thoughts running through your mind. You know, the kind of incessant thinking you can’t stop…
Are some of the views in this post making you uncomfortable? And what about the more obvious…
Are you constantly worried? Do you have an underlying fear that’s completely void of any real peace?
If any of this applies… You, like millions of others, are completely identified with Ego.
How does one defeat, fight, avoid… the ego?
This is how devious the ego can operate. The more you fight it… the stronger it gets. It literally FEEDS on your unconscious or conscious resistance… Any resistance is what it wants.
Here’s the good news. It’s easier than you think to escape the grasp of the ego in your life. And it doesn’t involve any “steps”… There’s no “formula” to achieving an ego-free life. You can’t practice or train to fight it.
The only thing that will diminish the ego is to notice it In The Moment.
Merely being aware of the ego in action will deteriorate its intensity. Your Awareness of it is like spotting this maniac unclothed… And in utter embarrassment, the ego runs.
So the next time an off-putting comment makes the hairs on your neck stand up… the next time your 2-year old says something to infuriate you… the next time jealousy creeps in… anger fires off… panic consumes…
…the next time you find yourself identifying with that ‘thing’…
Just notice it. Be with it.
It’s our natural state. Have you ever noticed a baby. How one glance can do something amazing to us. Kids are generally joyous… pure love in the beginning. This is because identity… ego hasn’t taken over.
This state… it’s still there for you.

So just be aware of the ego.
In the beginning, you may still give in after the awareness. That’s ok. Once you discover that you can notice or be aware of the ego… this awareness will become a more frequent occurrence.
And as more of these occurrences strip the ego naked…
You will find that sooner or later… things won’t bother you like they used to. You will discover that you are NOT your ego.
Life will flow much easier. You will start to see things fall into place more often. And as life accepts YOU… you realize you ARE the awareness that remains.
